Teaching style:
A flexible teaching style allows me to address each student’s particular
need. The student’s goal will be discussed to establish a reasonable
plan. Reading music may not be for everyone, so I don’t force
that issue. Learning to read music is very important for the younger students,
however, adults may wish to play chords and learn songs quickly.
Thanks to my many years of experience, one of my strengths is to help
young and older adults perform in a band or group situation. I can also
help with finger picking styles, bottleneck slide, jazz theory and soloing,
jazz chord melody, and all styles of rock guitar. For the more advanced,
I can transcribe difficult solos and chord progressions by ear. For piano
students who prefer rock and pop rather than classical style, I can teach
recorded parts of songs as opposed to sheet music arrangements.
Age recommendations:
Beginning piano can start at six years of age; guitar starts at eight
or nine years. These recommendations are typical, but younger students
can be considered. Adults of all ages are welcome. If you’re an
adult who has always wanted to play, but couldn’t find the right
teacher, I’m your guy!
Why you should study with me:
I have been a full time music teacher in the Naugatuck area for over 20
years. Besides performing, this is all I do. A good experienced teacher
can simplify the wealth of information available and focus only on what
is important. This means you won’t waste time working on the wrong
things and developing bad habits that slow down your progress.
Environment:
My state of the art studio is everything you need to get a great sound.
All you need to bring is your instrument of choice and plug in. Guitar,
bass and electric piano students can play along with Cds and I can custom
burn Cds with appropriate music for lessons to bring home. Wireless DSL
allows quick music downloads. Students will also benefit from over 20
years of collected transcriptions of music publications, which can be
instantly copied for home use.
The spacious, temperature-controlled studio can accommodate parents who
may choose to sit in and observe.
